What is this tool set?

This tool supports teacher reflection on the year with a focus on the effectiveness of the units that were taught during the year.

Who would use it?

This tool can be used to focus academic leader/teacher end-of-year conferences and teacher professional development planning, or can be used by teachers to begin the rethinking of their program for next year’s students.

Why would they use it?

This tool addresses adult learning research recommendations that adults take time to reflect on what they have done and what their planning to do to make sure that they are moving toward the goals that were set at the beginning of the year.

When would they use it?

Ed Directions recommends that this tool be used during the last month of school or just after the students leave for the summer so that the reflection can be used to support teacher professional development decisions and plan foci for next year’s students.

What prep work before or action items after should someone expect?

Ed Directions provides tools for teachers to evaluate each unit and evaluate student performance in each unit. When student work has been collected and is in place, reflection can be more focused and the evaluation can be more nuanced.

The pandemic has made this activity an important one for improving the teaching/ learning environment and unit planning/assessment planning processes. The “what worked” and “what didn’t work” analysis is going to be very important to planning can be initiated and focused on students with this activity.
