Professional Development Series

State, District and School Resources

What barriers are families and students in your area facing, and how can they seek out resources for assistance? This professional development session will discuss what resources are in your area for basic needs and mental health issues. Participants will collaborate to generate ideas as to how schools and staff can assist families in this effort as we come out of the Covid-19 pandemic era.

Outcomes:

Participants will leave the session with a “shopping list” of resources that can be used to address serious risk causing issues, as well as a list of “lightning rod” contacts for immediate assistance and direction.

District Staff

• A menu of community/state/district resources – availability, cost, contact/referral, and anecdotal record of past experiences
• A menu of services keyed to at-risk factors with district recommended procedures for identification and intervention
• A plan for communicating resources to school staff and monitoring their use

School Leadership Teams

• A menu of community/state/district resources – availability, cost, contact/referral, and anecdotal record of past experiences
• A menu of services keyed to at-risk factors with district recommended procedures for identification and intervention including a district contact person/resource person
• A plan for an ongoing monitoring of wellness resources – their responsiveness, cost, and availability
• A plan for communicating resources, their targets, and their use to instructional staff and monitoring their use and its impact on the targeted students

School Staff

• A menu of community/state/district resources – availability, cost, contact/referral process, and a district contact
• A menu of services keyed to at-risk factors with district-recommended procedures for identification and intervention
• An individual “wellness” action plan for each teacher, counselor, and support staff
• A plan for an ongoing monitoring of wellness resources – their responsiveness, cost, and availability
• A plan for monitoring resources used to determine the level of success on individual students

Each session ends with a personalized action plan based on that day’s learning. Also, each session will review the user experience and query suggestions from participants via an anonymous e-mail survey. Optionally, a check-for-understanding assessment can be included.
