End of Year Student Profile

Another area that teachers need to complete to bring to closure at the end of the year is a development of a student profile, as shown “EOY Student Profile” on page 242. This profile will give teachers information about the students they will have next year so they can begin planning. In the Ed Directions toolkit, coaches have a number of tools that can be used to describe students along with tools that enable students to describe themselves and how they learn and perform.

This profile development can be not only a tool for labeling and sorting students, but also a best practice activity because:
• It gives teachers a preliminary look at student successes and failures, strengths and concerns, and prior academic success.
• It can identify how students feel they learn best and under what conditions they perform best.
• It identifies possible problems, at-risk students, and previous teacher evaluations of student strengths and weaknesses.
• It captures cognitive and noncognitive data on all five legs of the performance model.
• Most importantly, it gives the teacher an opportunity to assess their readiness to teach these kids.
