Do they have the skills to address behavior issues? Can they motivate students? Will their favorite lessons work for the students? Will they need other differentiation strategies? When academic leaders begin working with teachers on next year’s school improvement plans, these questions need to drive the professional development and material selection plans for the year.

For instructional leaders and school administrators, there are several EOY compliance and regulatory activities that take up enormous amounts of time. There may be a temptation to focus only on those
since they have legal and district policy implications. They are important, but transitioning effectively into the next year’s learner cycle is a critical concern.
